Pineapple Quince
The Pineapple Qince looks like a somewhat knobbley pear. It is a smaller shrub that is hardy and takes a wide range of conditions .The skin turns a yellow colour when ripe and the flesh has a white colour and tastes of a hint of pineapple. It can be eaten raw but is best cooked in other dishes. Offen seen in jellies and jam preserves and is a lovely addition to apple sauce. Our Grandmothers used Quinces in cooking , rather than eating it off the tree. Even so, it makes a fanastic landscape tree with rose pink blooms on twisted branches in the spring , which then produce leaves and later the fruit appear. But the aromatic smell of this Pineapple Quince is well worth buying , just for that!
