Details
A deciduous small tree or large shrub that stands between 3-4 metres tall. It has bright green foliage through summer turning buttery yellow before falling in autumn. White to pale pink springtime flowers turn into large golden yellow pear-shaped fruit when ripe. The fruits have a aromatic fragrance and tart, acidic flavour. Harvested in autumn, the fruits are inedible unless cooked.
Perfect for jellies as well as added to apple pies and sauces.
Quince tolerate a wide range of soil and climatic conditions and make a great ornamental specimen for lawn and border plantings. Best trained for an open-centred vase shape. Trim laterals for shape, bearing in mind, fruit appear on current season's growth. Require less chilling than apples or pears
